I am in the process of closing old loops. Clearing out various creative projects from the last decade (plus) that for some reason or another I started, but did not originally finish. This little book was one of those.
Apparently, twelve years ago I finished 3/4ths of a draft about playwright Alfred Jarry, the provocateur behind Ubu Roi, an obscenity-laden live-cartoon of a play that became the precursor of Dadaism, Surrealism and the Theatre of the Absurd.
Can't remember why I abandoned it. I remember just finishing Jarry's book The Supermale and was reading Alastair Brotchie's massive Jarry biography.
Anyway...
Spent the last few days reacquainting myself with the pages of research notes I had. Love this time period in history, especially in France. The "fin de siècle." Ubu Roi premiered approximately a year before Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac.
The loop is now closed. Finished it, formatted it, whipped up a cover design and made it into a neat little ebook for Kindle.
